Seon Ho Kim is a Research Scientist currently working at the Integrated Media Systems Center (IMSC) at the University of Southern California. He teaches a Data Science course in the Department of Computer Science at USC, Los Angeles. He received his Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering from Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea in 1986, followed by his M.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1994 and Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1999. Between 1999 and 2010, he was a faculty member at the University of Denver, Colorado, and the University of the District of Columbia, Washington, D.C. His research interests include spatial databases, Big Data, IoT Smart Cities, multimedia systems, and image machine learning. He leads projects such as the MediaQ data collection management platform and the TVDP project, which focuses on urban geo-tagged visual data collection, processing, and analysis. His work has been funded by federal and local governments and industries such as Google, Northrop Grumman Corp., Microsoft, Oracle, and Intel. He is a senior member of IEEE and a member of ACM, and he has served as president of both the Korean American Scientists and Engineers Association Southern California Chapter (KSEA-SC) and Korean Computer Scientists and Engineers in America (KOCSEA). Dr. Kim is also the founder and president of the Social Data Analysis and Visualization Group (SoDAVi), a non-profit organization that aims to provide data collection and analysis services to the Korean-American community in Southern California.
