Dr. Septimiu Murgu

Biography

Septimiu Murgu, MD, is a professor at the University of Chicago in the Department of Medicine, specializing in interventional pulmonology. His clinical interests include airway obstruction, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as tracheobronchomalacia and lung cancer. Dr. Murgu has made significant contributions to understanding airflow dynamics and classification of airway disorders. His collaboration with international biomedical engineers has led to advances in bronchoscopic imaging techniques, including optical coherence tomography and radial endobronchial ultrasound. He serves on the Board of Directors for the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology and has been involved with educational initiatives through the American College of Chest Physicians. As an active member, he contributes to the development of new curricula for bronchoscopic education, particularly for lung cancer.
