Dr. Serbulent Turan

Biography

Serbulent Turan is an instructor in the Department of Political Science at the University of British Columbia. His research focuses on uprisings, protests, and rebellions across the globe, examining the origins of the state and the sources of both obedience and public disobedience. His work encompasses various themes within political theory including the history of political thought, democratic theory, and practices surrounding global protests and rebellions. Turan has an educational background with a PhD in Political Science from the University of British Columbia, and has pursued master's degrees from the College of Europe and Bilgi University, in conjunction with Leiden University. His expertise includes critical theory, particularly pertaining to democracy, authoritarianism, and public protests.
