Biography

Serdal Kirmizialtin received his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin in 2007. Following his doctoral work, he joined Professor Ron Elber’s group at the Institute for Computational Engineering Sciences at UT-Austin, where he continued his research as a postdoctoral fellow. From 2013 to 2015, he worked at Los Alamos National Laboratories as an Associate Research Scientist in Theoretical Biology and Biophysics. In 2015, Kirmizialtin joined the faculty of New York University Abu Dhabi in the Chemistry Program. His research adopts a strong cross-disciplinary approach, integrating insights from physical chemistry, computational science, soft matter, enzyme actions, and biological machinery in information processing. By employing theoretical computer simulations, Kirmizialtin investigates the physical and chemical principles necessary to understand, predict, and manipulate the behavior of biological macromolecules.
