Biography

Serena Merrino is an Associate Professor in Economics (Teaching) at University College London's School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES). She teaches courses in macroeconomics and political economy, and serves as the co-ordinator for the BA programme in Economics and Business. Serena obtained her PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London in 2019. She also holds an MSc in Macroeconomic Policy and Financial Markets from Barcelona Graduate School of Economics. Her academic journey began with studies in economics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata and the Universidad Católica Argentina in Buenos Aires. Furthermore, she has worked as a consultant for the United Nations University (WIDER) and has held a fellowship at the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), where she conducted research on the macroeconomic effects of climate change and represented SARB in the Network for Greening the Financial System. Serena is an active member of the Reteaching Economics network and the Post-Keynesian Economics Society, contributing to the discourse on sustainable development goals, especially in climate action and reducing inequalities.
