Biography

Serge Cardinal is a full professor in the Department of Art History, Cinema, and Audiovisual Media at the Université de Montréal. His research focuses on the sound and musical dimensions of cinema and media arts, philosophies of cinema, and film acting. His research creation aims to investigate audiovisual practices as methods for studying filmography, analyzing films, and problematizing musical practices. He is a member of the research-creation laboratory 'La création sonore: cinéma, arts médiatiques, arts du son' and the Interuniversity Group for Research and Creation in Music and Society. Cardinal has published works such as 'Profound Depths of Listening and Spaces of Sound. Cinema, Radio, Music' (PUS, 2018) and 'Deleuze in Cinema' (PUL, 2010). He has produced several films and videos including 'The Library Between Two Fires' (2002) and 'Welcome to the Board of Directors' (2007). In 2019, he completed an installation titled 'Tomb of Gilles Groulx' and has been involved in various projects that explore the intersection of sound and visual arts.
