Biography

S. Guillas currently holds the position of Met Office Joint Chair in Data Sciences for Weather and Climate, where he leads the UCL Met Office Academic Partnership. In 2022, he became the Associate Director of the UCL Centre for Advanced Research Computing (ARC). He obtained his PhD from Sorbonne University (Paris 6 Pierre-et-Marie-Curie, France) in 2001 and has since held several academic positions including Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Chicago (2002-2004) and Assistant Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology (2004-2007). He joined University College London (UCL) in 2007 as a Lecturer, was promoted to Reader in 2009, and became a Professor in 2016. His research interests include statistical methodologies for environmental science and contributions to significant international initiatives such as his role as the UK representative Chair of the Working group on Uncertainties for the EU COST action 'Accelerating Global science Tsunami Hazard Risk analysis' (AGITHAR) involving 26 countries.
