Serge Nef studied at the University of Geneva, where he obtained his PhD in Biochemistry in 1996. He then completed a five-year post-doctoral fellowship at the Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, USA. After returning to Geneva, he worked in the Department of Physiology and later in the Department of Genetic Medicine and Development, both within the Faculty of Medicine. Over the course of his twenty-year career, he was promoted to full professor in 2019. His research focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms of genetic programs that regulate gonadal sex determination, testicular development, and both endocrine and exocrine functions. He is particularly involved in research related to male fertility in Switzerland, with support from the Swiss Centre for Applied Toxicology. Recently, on July 15, 2023, he has taken on the role of delegate at the Dean's Office within the Faculty of Medicine of UNIGE, where he oversees faculty research platforms and premises.
