Dr. Sergey Vakhrushev

Biography

Sergey Vakhrushev is an Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen, specializing in glycomics and proteomics. His research focuses on understanding the complexities of protein glycosylation, particularly O-glycosylation, which is critical for a variety of biological functions and disease mechanisms. Vakhrushev’s group employs advanced mass spectrometry techniques to characterize O-glycan structures and identify specific sites of glycosylation on proteins. His work aims to overcome the challenges associated with the simultaneous identification and quantification of native glycan structures on individual glycosites. By using genetically engineered cells expressing reduced glycan complexity, his team has achieved significant breakthroughs in the field. These methodologies not only facilitate high-throughput analysis but also expand the understanding of glycoproteomes and their roles in health and disease.
