Biography

Sergio Delgado Moya is an Associate Professor in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Chicago. He holds a PhD from Princeton University, earned in 2010. His teaching and research focus primarily on Latin American and Latinx studies, with an emphasis on the cultural history of the Americas during the 20th and 21st centuries. Professor Delgado Moya’s scholarly work revolves around issues of art and aesthetics, particularly how sensibilities change in response to historical contexts. His ongoing research includes a long-term project that examines the intersection of poetry and visual art in Mexico and Brazil, particularly relating to consumer culture. He is currently writing a book titled "A Nervous Archive: Sensationalism, Potency, Horror," which explores the nature of sensationalism in relation to violence, focusing on marginalized groups affected by issues of gender, class, race, ethnicity, dispossession, and sexuality. His published essays span topics such as U.S./Mexico border issues, Latin American and Latinx Pop art, and the cultures of Greater Mexico. Prior to his current position, he served as an Associate Professor at Emory University and Harvard University. Professor Delgado Moya earned a Master’s degree and a PhD in Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Cultures from Princeton University, and he received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Spanish Language Literature from UC Berkeley.
