Biography

Sergio M. Figueiredo is an Associate Professor and Chair of Architectural History Theory at the Department of the Built Environment at Eindhoven University of Technology. His areas of expertise include the history of arts and architecture, architecture museums, and exhibitions. His research focuses on the role of architectural institutions in shaping architectural culture. Figueiredo is part of the Curatorial Research Collective, which integrates research and education to enhance understanding of how architecture is communicated to a broad audience, often using architectural exhibitions as a medium for scholarly output. He coordinates AUDE’s research seminars and leads the unit’s research committee. A significant aspect of his work is dedicated to developing students' research skills through quantitative and qualitative methods, archival work, and algorithmic analysis. Currently, he is developing a large research project titled ‘The Taxonomy of Architectural Exhibitions,’ which aims to examine how architecture is conveyed through exhibitions and perceived by the general public over the past 30 years. This project effectively identifies the constituent elements of exhibitions and explores the methods and practices that shape public perceptions of architecture.
