Sergio Montero is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and Planning at the University of Toronto, Scarborough. He is the inaugural director of the Institute for Inclusive Economies and Sustainable Livelihoods. His research interests focus on place-based inclusive approaches to local economic development and urban and regional planning, particularly emphasizing the dynamics of economic development in the Global South. He serves as an associate editor for the journal Regional Studies and is an international corresponding editor for Urban Studies. Montero holds both a Master’s and a PhD in City and Regional Planning from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Universidad de Granada in Spain. Before joining the University of Toronto, he was a professor of urban and regional development at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia.
