Dr. Sergio Paramo Ortiz

Biography

Sergio Paramo Ortiz is a research lecturer in social entrepreneurship at the School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University, Netherlands. He obtained his PhD from the University of York, UK, with a thesis titled 'Social Enterprises Social Innovation: Insights Mexico'. Currently, he co-coordinates and teaches the course on Diversity Entrepreneurship, and teaches courses in Social Sustainable Entrepreneurship, Business Innovation, and Sustainable Development, alongside supervising master and bachelor theses. His research has a dual focus, explaining the intersection of social enterprises and social innovation to understand the transformative potential of these contexts, and analyzing them through a decolonial lens as viewed from both the global South and global North. His research contributed to the Mexican chapter of the International Comparative Social Enterprise Models Project, and he is an active member of the International Research Network on Social Enterprise (EMES Network). He was appointed as the PhD representative for the EMES PhD Network for the 2020-21 period. Before joining Maastricht University for his PhD studies, he worked as a teaching assistant in the MSc Sustainability Business: Leadership and Innovation Management program at the University of York, where he tutored courses on Introduction to Sustainable Business, Sustainable Business Innovation, and Sustainable Entrepreneurship. He holds an MSc in Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
