Biography

Sergiy Butenko is a Professor and Liollio Family Faculty Fellow in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University. He holds a Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Florida, attained in 2003. His research primarily focuses on global discrete optimization applications, specifically the theoretical and computational aspects of continuous global optimization approaches for solving discrete optimization problems, particularly on graphs. His research interests extend to applications in network-based data mining, and the analysis of biological and social networks, as well as energy-related problems. Butenko has been recognized for his contributions to the field and has received multiple awards including the Charles H. Barclay, Jr. Faculty Fellow award from Texas A&M University in 2012 and the Young Investigator Program Award from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research in 2008. He has also been honored by his students with awards such as the Favorite Professor award from the IIE Student Chapter at Texas A&M University in 2006 and outstanding teaching assistant awards during his time at the University of Florida.
