Biography

Seth Bledsoe is an Assistant Professor at Radboud University, specializing in the Textual, Historical, and Systematic Studies of Judaism and Christianity. He joined the faculty in Fall 2018 after previously holding research and teaching positions in the United States, Hungary, and Germany. He earned his PhD in Religion from Florida State University in 2015. His research focuses on the literary and socio-historical character of ancient Jewish and Christian literature, with a particular focus on wisdom narrative traditions. He has published several articles and a monograph titled 'Ahiqar', analyzing an early Aramaic text that shares themes and stylistic features with biblical literature, especially the Book of Proverbs. Currently, he investigates how ancient authors constructed identity through discursive means, with specific emphasis on diaspora communities in Egypt during the Persian and Hellenistic periods compared to contemporary biblical texts like Ezra-Nehemiah and Daniel. He offers courses in the Hebrew Bible, New Testament, and ancient languages, including Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, and Syriac. Additionally, he teaches specialized topics such as apocalypticism, religion and violence, and the Dead Sea Scrolls, and welcomes PhD and MA students interested in Hebrew Bible, Temple Judaism studies, and related fields.
