Dr. Seth Grant

Biography

Professor Seth Grant is a leading researcher in Molecular Neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh. With a Bachelor of Science in Medicine and extensive postdoctoral training at prestigious institutions such as Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and Columbia University, he has dedicated his career to understanding the intricate mechanisms of behavior through the lens of genetics and neurobiology. His research focuses on the proteins that control synapses—critical connections between nerve cells—that underpin behavior and are implicated in several neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia, autism, and depression. Professor Grant's pioneering work has led to the development of methods for mapping the protein composition of synapses at single-synapse resolution, revealing remarkable diversity in synapse structure and function throughout the lifespan. His findings have opened new pathways for diagnosis and therapeutic interventions for cognitive disorders.
