Dr. Seth Guikema

Biography

Seth Guikema is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan. He holds a PhD in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University, where he also earned his Master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Additionally, he has a Master’s degree by thesis in Civil Engineering from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University. His research interests span areas of analytics, risk assessment, and decision-making within engineering contexts, particularly focusing on improving the resilience of infrastructure systems. As a faculty member, he engages in various interdisciplinary projects that connect civil engineering with operational research and engineering management. Professor Guikema is dedicated to enhancing educational experiences for students by integrating real-world challenges into the curriculum and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
