Biography

Professor Lichter studies dynamics at the molecular scale and is currently working on four projects. He collaborates with Prof. Chris Goedde from DePaul University to investigate the dynamics of long-chain polymers, and alongside Prof. Anupam Garg from the Physics Department, he studies how molecules diffuse across complex surfaces. Additionally, he investigates the molecular mechanisms by which liquids move under solid shear. His work makes extensive use of computation, with an emphasis on developing simple analytical models to find closed-form analytical approximate solutions, allowing him to tackle complicated problems through large numerical computations and physical insights combined with novel mathematics. Professor Lichter has received significant recognition for his work, including the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award and the Clemens Herschel Prize for Excellence in Engineering.
