Seth J. Schwartz is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at the University of Texas at Austin. He received his B.A. in psychology from Florida State University in 1993, followed by a master's degree in family and child sciences in 1996, and a Ph.D. in developmental psychology from Florida International University in 2000. Schwartz held a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Miami from 2000 to 2020 before joining UT Austin in January 2021. His research interests include identity, acculturation, cultural stress, adolescent development, and mental health, especially among immigrant populations. He is also engaged in multiple studies focused on the impact of cultural stress on mental health and well-being among diverse youth populations, and has served as Editor Chief of the International Journal of Intercultural Relations. Schwartz has been recognized with various awards, including the Excellence Mentoring Award from the National Hispanic Science Network on Drug Abuse in 2019 and being named the Tyner Eminent Scholar at Florida State University in 2014. He is passionate about sports and has completed 35 half marathons, showcasing his dedication to fitness and distance running.
