Dr. Seung Choi

Biography

Seung Choi is a professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. He specializes in applying modern psychometric theories and techniques to develop and validate educational, psychological, and patient-reported outcome measures. Dr. Choi teaches graduate courses in psychometrics, including Psychometric Theory Methods and Item Response Theory, and has extensive research interests in the development and application of computerized adaptive testing programs. His academic career includes holding the Pearson Endowed Professorship in Psychometrics. Choi has published numerous impactful studies including those on health profiles and patient-reported outcomes. He has led significant projects with NIH focused on developing robust measures for assessing health outcomes, particularly for children. His contributions to the field encompass an array of areas, from dynamic internet-based testing systems to standardized metrics for health assessments. He earned his Ph.D. in Psychometrics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1996 and holds an M.A. in Quantitative Methods from the same institution, received in 1992.
