Biography

Shabaz Mohammed studied Chemistry at UMIST (now the University of Manchester) and obtained his degree in 1999. He subsequently worked in the laboratory of Simon Gaskell in the field of biological mass spectrometry, where he focused on fundamental topics and defended his work in early 2003. He moved to Odense, Denmark, to join Ole Jensen's group, which specialized in technology development for studying post-translational modifications. During this period, he helped develop a method for quantitative analysis of phosphorylation, which became widely adopted for analyzing its role in cellular signaling. In 2005, he transitioned to Albert Heck's laboratory, continuing his work in proteomic technologies. By 2008, he became an Assistant Professor and established his own research group. In 2013, he advanced to Associate Professor, specializing in Proteomics within the Departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Since 2020, he has been seconded to the Rosalind Franklin Institute, where he leads the Mechanistic Proteomics research program.
