Shaghik Atakaramians is an Associate Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney. He is the founding leader of the Terahertz Innovation Group Laboratory, focusing on the application of Terahertz (THz) radiation and the development of THz waveguides, fibers, and metawaveguides, with an emphasis on topologically protected devices. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for APL Photonics and is a senior member of IEEE and OPTICA. Atakaramians received the ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award in 2014 and has held various research positions, including a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Photonics and Optical Science (IPOS) at the University of Sydney from 2011-2017. He obtained his PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, where his thesis won the Dean’s Merit Award and the Gertrude Rohan Memorial Prize for outstanding research. His research interests include hybrid reflection-free wireless communications, Electromagnetics, and Metamaterials.
