Dr. Shahab Bakhtiari

Biography

Shahab Bakhtiari is an Assistant Professor at the University of Montreal. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tehran and earned a PhD in Neuroscience from McGill University. Upon completing his PhD, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Mila, Quebec AI Institute, where he focused on research at the intersection of neuroscience and artificial intelligence. His research particularly centers on the modeling of visual perception and learning in biological brains using artificial neural networks, with an emphasis on deep learning computational frameworks. He is actively involved in supervising graduate students and guiding theses and dissertation projects that explore various aspects of neuroAI and visual systems. His recent projects aim to optimize frameworks for comparative multispecies studies of visual systems and delve into the union of neuroscience and artificial intelligence. Bakhtiari’s interdisciplinary research spans neuroscience, psychology, and computer engineering, with a pronounced focus on computational neuroscience and machine learning methodologies. He aims to leverage knowledge of the nervous system to develop biologically-inspired artificial intelligence systems.
