Shaheen Azim Dewji is an Assistant Professor in the Nuclear and Radiological Engineering Medical Physics Programs at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She leads the Radiological Engineering, Detection, Dosimetry (RED²) research group. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, she was a Faculty at Texas A&M University in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and a Faculty Fellow at the Center for Nuclear Security Science and Policy Initiatives (NSSPI). She has also worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for nine years as a Radiological Scientist at the Center for Radiation Protection Knowledge. Her research interests encompass the development of dose coefficients, shielding design, and nuclear material detection assays using gamma-ray spectroscopy. Recent efforts focus on addressing the challenges of uncertainty quantification in dose estimation and reconstruction related to external exposure and internal uptake of radionuclides, with applications in emergency response, defense, nuclear medicine, as well as occupational and public safety using Monte Carlo radiation transport codes and internal dose modeling. Dewji completed her Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Nuclear and Radiological Engineering at Georgia Tech and is a fellow of the Sam Nunn Security Program. She received her Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of British Columbia. Additionally, she serves on the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine – Nuclear Radiation Studies Board and is a member of the Board of Directors for the American Nuclear Society and the Health Physics Society.
