Shahidul Islam is currently an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He served as the Residency Program Director for Anatomical Pathology from 2011 to 2021 and for General Pathology from 2011 to 2016. He is a founder member and currently the Chair of the AFC Cytopathology Specialty Committee at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). He undertook his residency training in Anatomical Pathology at the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo, and completed fellowships in Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology at the same institution and at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas. He holds a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology from the University of Toledo, Ohio, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Islam is certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in Anatomic Pathology and is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists as well as the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
