Biography

Shahin Nasiri is a lecturer in Political Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. His research interests span phenomenology, theories of freedom and democracy, migration and citizenship, sustainability and circular innovation, critical race theory, and the critical genealogy of state violence and political resistance. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Amsterdam and has studied Political Theory at the London School of Economics, Philosophy at Leiden University, and Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology. Previously, he served as a lecturer in Philosophy at Tilburg University and Wageningen University & Research. Nasiri's ongoing research investigates the intersection of phenomenology and political theory through interdisciplinary projects. One of his notable studies examines the (un)freedom and lived experiences of refugees, combining phenomenological fieldwork with philosophical analysis. His research has led to significant findings in the legal-philosophical nature of mass political violence and resistance practices. He has also contributed to scholarly work regarding the recognition of the 1981 Massacre in Iran by the United Nations. As part of his academic responsibilities, he is involved in diversity and inclusion initiatives within the Faculty of Humanities, and he directs R&D in Sustainability and Circular Innovation in the high-tech sector.
