Shahram Ghandeharizadeh received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1990. He has been faculty at the University of Southern California since 1992. His research interests include the design and implementation of novel architectures for high-performance data-intensive applications, intelligent 3D multimedia displays, and multimedia-based social networking systems. He has contributed significantly to the field, receiving the ACM Software System Award in 2008 for his work on Gamma, a scalable database management system. He has served on the organizing committees of numerous conferences and held various leadership positions, including general chair for Holodecks 2023 and the VLDB 2019. An esteemed member of the ACM, he has also held the position of Editor-in-Chief for the ACM SIGMOD DiSC from 2003 to 2006. Ghandeharizadeh is actively supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, Oracle, Microsoft, and others. He was recognized with several awards throughout his career, including the ACM-SIGMM Award in 2000 and the USC-School of Engineering Outstanding Teaching Award in 1997.
