Biography

Shahram Ghandeharizadeh received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1990. He has been a faculty member at the University of Southern California since 1992. He was recognized with the National Science Foundation Young Investigator's Award in 1992 for his research in physical design of parallel database systems. In 1995, he was awarded by the School of Engineering at USC in acknowledgment of his extensive research activities and contributions. In 2008, he received the ACM Software System Award for his work on Gamma, a scalable database management system. His research interests lie in the design and evaluation of novel architectures for high-performance, data-intensive applications, including intelligent 3D multimedia displays and multimedia-based social networking systems. Throughout his career, Dr. Ghandeharizadeh has served on various organizing committees for major conferences, including as general chair for Holodecks 2023 and has held significant roles in various professional societies. He has also been a grant supporter to numerous agencies, including the National Science Foundation and Oracle. Dr. Ghandeharizadeh is known for his active contributions to the ACM community, serving as a distinguished member and as editor-in-chief for ACM SIGMOD DiSC.
