Biography

Shahryar Rahnamayan is a Full Professor and the Chair of the Engineering Department at Brock University. He holds a PhD in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo, where he also completed his MSc and BSc in Software Engineering. With over 22 years of research experience, he has worked with prestigious institutions such as the University of Waterloo, Michigan State University, and Simon Fraser University, authoring more than 250 publications primarily in the fields of machine learning, optimization, and medical image processing. His contributions to the field have garnered over 10,700 citations, distinguishing him as a leader in research. He is a director of the Nature-Inspired Computational Intelligence Lab and co-director of the Kimia Lab focused on medical image analysis. Dr. Rahnamayan has also developed and taught numerous graduate and undergraduate courses, supervised 75 highly qualified personnel, and has a strong track record in engineering program development and accreditation. He has been recognized as one of the top 2% of AI researchers worldwide from 2020 to 2024 and has received various awards for his research and teaching excellence.
