Dr. Shai Agmon

Biography

Shai Agmon is an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Political Philosophy at University College London. He works at the intersection of politics, law, and economics, exploring how the design of real-world institutions shapes and reflects core philosophical questions of equality, freedom, and authority. His research primarily focuses on the philosophy of competition, political change, democratic theory, and the normative limits of markets. Additionally, he writes on contemporary Israeli politics, with a specific focus on national security and the rise of right-wing populism. Prior to joining UCL, he held the Rank-Manning Junior Research Fellowship in Social Sciences at New College, University of Oxford. Agmon holds a DPhil in Political Theory from Oxford, an MSc in Philosophy and Public Policy from the London School of Economics, an LL.B from Tel Aviv University, and a BA (Hons) in Humanities and Arts from Tel Aviv. His work engages with contemporary issues tied to sustainable development goals, specifically in peace, justice, and strong institutions.
