Dr. Shailly Ghai

Biography

Shailly Jain Ghai is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at the University of Alberta. She completed her medical education at the University of Western Ontario, followed by residency training in Medical Genetics at the University of Toronto. Additionally, she is a fellow of the Canadian College of Medical Genetics, specializing in clinical biochemical genetics (metabolics). Dr. Ghai's clinical expertise lies in diagnosing and treating inherited metabolic diseases in both children and adults. Her research interests focus on newborn screening, lysosomal storage disorders, and liver transplantation related to inherited metabolic disorders. She serves as the Chair of the Canadian College of Medical Genetics training program at the University of Alberta and as the program director for the Biochemical Genetics fellowship. Dr. Ghai also participates in clinical trials for mRNA-based therapies related to conditions such as Methylmalonic acidemia and Propionic acidemia, and she is involved in the Canadian Inherited Metabolic Diseases Research Network as a local principal investigator.
