Biography

Shalini Singh is Professor in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at Brock University (ON). Singh’s research explores aspects of leisure tourism with a focus on destination communities, domestic tourism and cultural heritage, spirituality and place–people synergies. She has also made contributions to themes related with communities in the Indian Himalaya and sacred–secular pilgrimages and journeys. Her current engagement is with a UNESCO World Heritage site in India to understand the agency of tourism for integration and reconciliation. Her research includes topics like the impact of World Heritage Site designation on tourism to sacred sites, perspectives on studies in domestic tourism, tourist experiences at home, and national identity among visitors.
