Biography

Shamkant Navathe has been a faculty member at Georgia Tech since 1990. His research interests are primarily focused on database modeling and design, data integration, context-aware applications, and bioinformatics. He is known for his work in engineering design databases, biological (particularly human genome) databases, document text databases, and collaborative applications. Dr. Navathe is also interested in knowledge representation and data mining, as well as knowledge discovery methodologies. His work contributes significantly to information system design, user interfaces, information retrieval, and data visualization. He serves as the Bioengineering PhD/MS coordinator in the College of Computing and is affiliated with the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Genomics, as well as the Institute for People and Technology (IPaT).
