Dr. Shan Pan

Biography

Shan Pan is a Scientia Professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), where he serves as the Deputy Head of the School of Information Systems and Technology Management and the founding director of the Digital Sustainability Knowledge Hub. He holds a PhD in Operations Research Systems from the University of Warwick. An accomplished researcher, his work focuses on digital sustainability and the enabling roles of digital technologies in sustainability and climate resilience across various sectors including Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and agriculture. His research contributions have been recognized through numerous awards, including the AIS Fellow Award and the AIS Impact Award for innovative work in educational technology and knowledge-sharing platforms. Pan has published extensively in prestigious journals, serving as Senior Editor for the Journal of AIS and on editorial boards of multiple high-impact journals. His academic career also includes significant roles at the National University of Singapore, where he contributed to strategic technology management and digital transformation studies. Throughout his career, he has engaged in numerous research projects, securing substantial funding to advance studies that address sustainability challenges through technology. Pan is dedicated to bridging theory and practice in information systems, and he frequently travels to developing economies to study indigenous information systems practices.
