Biography

Shane Hawkins has been a member of Carleton University's College of the Humanities since 2005, where he serves as Associate Professor and Director. His expertise encompasses Ancient Greek and Latin language courses, classical mythology, Greek literature, and Greek civilization, alongside Old Persian and Old Norse studies. Hawkins has taken an active role in leading the College, receiving a Fulbright award in Vienna at the Institut für Sprachwissenschaft, Indogermanistik. He holds degrees from the University of Minnesota (BA), Corpus Christi, Oxford (MStudies), and UNC-Chapel Hill (MA, PhD). His research interests lie in historical comparative Indo-European linguistics, particularly focusing on Greek and Latin, as well as Greek lyric invective poetry. He currently has several ongoing projects, including a publication on Greek iambic poetry and an outline for a historical comparative grammar of Ancient Greek. His contributions to the field include editing and authoring numerous studies on language and literature in respected journals and academic forums.
