Dr. Shane Henderson

Biography

Professor Shane G. Henderson holds the Charles W. Lake, Jr. Chair in the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering (ORIE) at Cornell University. His research interests encompass discrete-event simulation, optimization, emergency services planning, and pandemic response, particularly in the context of transportation. He is an INFORMS Fellow and co-recipient of the INFORMS Wagner Prize for his work on bike-sharing programs. Previously, he served as Director of the School of ORIE and was chair of the INFORMS Applied Probability Society. He has held positions in the Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan and the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Auckland. His work closely relates to societal relevance, with applications including bike-sharing, medical scheduling, and ambulance planning, particularly in pandemic response scenarios. His teaching interests include courses in simulation, stochastic modeling, and mathematical modeling.
