Dr. Shang Liu

Biography

Shang Liu is a Dornsife Fellow specializing in sociology at the University of Southern California. His academic focus encompasses political sociology, social movements, and immigration, employing qualitative research methods. Shang's work is particularly centered on civic engagement and the roles of volunteering within non-governmental organizations (NGOs). His current research involves a comprehensive examination of the interactions between NGOs and student volunteers in America. Additionally, Shang has conducted a three-year field study in China that explored the experiences of college volunteers working with elementary school children of migrant workers in Beijing. His research contributes to the understanding of how civic engagement impacts social structures and community development.
