Biography

Shankari Rajagopal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Michigan. Her research interests are diverse and include quantum simulation, metrology, and computation. She focuses on the robust control and steering of quantum systems toward entangled states that are useful in precision measurement, as well as in the simulation of quantum materials and the implementation of quantum optimization algorithms. As an experimental atomic physicist, Shankari builds hybrid cold atom experiments utilizing locally interacting Rydberg atom arrays and interacting photonic modes within optical cavities. These experimental setups enable exquisite spatiotemporal control over atomic trapping potentials, interatomic interactions, and measurements. Shankari is also deeply committed to advancing equity and inclusion within the sciences, actively participating in initiatives aimed at improving representation of historically underrepresented populations. She has co-chaired local organizing committees for the American Physical Society's Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics and has engaged in various outreach activities to promote early enthusiasm for STEM fields.
