Biography

Shannon Gibson teaches courses and conducts research in global environmental politics, global public health, social movements, and social justice community-based research. She received her Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of Miami in 2011. As a participant-action researcher, she focuses on the role of disruptive politics and social movements in climate health governance. Her dissertation titled "Dynamics of Radicalization: The Rise of Radical Environmentalism in the Context of Climate Change" involved field research through participant observation at various international summits and the World Social Forum. Her research interests include global environmental politics, climate politics, global environmental activism, climate justice, and sustainable development. She has presented at multiple conferences and has contributed to journal articles and book chapters examining transnational environmental activism and participatory action research approaches to climate activism.
