Dr. Shannon Gillen

Biography

Shannon Gillen is the founder and artistic director of VIM VIGOR, a visionary dance company based in New York. Recognized as one of the most sought-after choreographers, Gillen's work has garnered commissions from prestigious venues both nationally and internationally. Her choreographic style is characterized by its physicality, emotional depth, and innovative imagery, allowing for a heightened narrative experience. She has recently created works for notable institutions and events such as the b12 Workshops in Berlin and Princeton University. A former dancer with the Johannes Wieland Company in Germany, she burst onto the choreographic scene by winning 3rd Prize at the International Solo-Tanz Competition in Stuttgart. Since establishing VIM VIGOR, she has created over 40 new works and has received numerous accolades, including fellowships and residencies at esteemed institutions. Gillen is also dedicated to advancing dance education, serving as a faculty member at SUNY Purchase College and Princeton University, while regularly teaching at Juilliard and New York University. She is committed to developing new platforms for contemporary dance education, offering classes and workshops to foster the next generation of dancers.
