Shannon S. Glaser is a Professor at Texas A&M University College of Medicine with a PhD earned in 2006. She has been a pioneer in the study of cholangiocytes and their role in liver disease pathogenesis. Her research has focused on the mechanisms through which cholangiocytes might contribute to the pathogenesis of chronic cholestatic liver diseases like primary biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis. Dr. Glaser's studies have demonstrated that proliferating cholangiocytes function in neuroendocrine signaling pathways within liver disease. She has also explored the activation of the local renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in cholangiocyte proliferation and the impact of mechanical stress in the activation of angiotensin type 1 receptors. The overarching goal of her research program is to elucidate how local RAS and mechanical stress contribute to biliary fibrosis in cholestatic liver diseases. Dr. Glaser has received multiple accolades for her commitment to education, including the 2025 R. Kelly Hester Distinguished Teaching Award.
