Shannon hails from Motor City and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan in 1996, followed by a Master of Fine Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2003. She has been awarded the Japanese Monbusho grant twice and has participated in residencies at the John Michael Kohler Arts/Industry program. Shannon is currently an Associate Professor specializing in Sculpture and Ceramics at Penn State University, having previously taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Cranbrook Academy of Art, and the Rhode Island School of Design.
