Biography

Shannon J. Linning is an assistant professor in the School of Criminology at Simon Fraser University. She earned her doctorate with a specialization in criminal justice and crime prevention from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Linning’s research primarily investigates how property owners and managers can create safer neighborhoods by reducing crime opportunities. Her scholarly work has been published in prestigious journals including the British Journal of Criminology, Crime Science, and the Journal of Quantitative Criminology. She is also a co-author of the books ‘Eyes on the Street: Control Crime?’ and ‘Expanding Place Management: Neighborhoods, Place Management, and Crime’. Currently, she is writing a book on problem-oriented policing, aimed at guiding police in rethinking strategies to reduce crime through collaboration with city management, urban planning, and property development. Linning's research interests encompass Environmental Criminology, Crime Place, and Community Criminology. Additionally, she has received various awards, including the Civic Innovation Lab Grant in 2023, and has been nominated for teaching excellence awards.
