Biography

Shannon Weeks McCormack joined the faculty of the University of Washington School of Law in 2012. She received her Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in Mathematics from the University of Virginia in 2000 and then earned her Juris Doctor cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2003. Following her graduation, she practiced as a tax associate at Davis Polk Wardwell in New York, focusing on financial products and the analysis of tax consequences of complex hybrid instruments. In 2005, she clerked for the Honorable Joseph H. Gale at the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C. Subsequently, she returned to Cambridge and received her LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center in 2006, graduating with distinction. At Georgetown, she was selected as one of five Graduate Tax Scholars to receive a full tuition scholarship. In the summer of 2006, she returned to Harvard Law School as a Climenko Fellow. In 2008, McCormack joined the faculty of the University of California, Davis School of Law as an Acting Professor, where she taught taxation courses until joining the University of Washington faculty. Her legal scholarship primarily focuses on federal taxation, with specific interests in tax abuse, tax shelters, and international taxation.
