Biography

Shannon McNamara has 30 years of combined clinical and academic experience in nursing. She began her nursing career in cardiology, developing deep expertise in the specialty. Her passion for nursing and cardiology, along with a commitment to lifelong learning, led her to complete a Master’s degree as part of the graduate cohort for Nurse Practitioners in Quebec in 2006. Since becoming a Nurse Practitioner, she has worked in cardiac surgery, general cardiology, and with heart failure populations. Shannon joined McGill University’s Ingram School of Nursing in 2019 to develop an Adult Care Nurse Practitioner concentration and currently serves as the Program Director for Nurse Practitioner programs. She is also pursuing a Doctorate in Nursing at the University of Toronto, focusing on teaching and learning activities in Nurse Practitioner education and the role-transition experiences of novice Nurse Practitioners.
