Biography

Shannon Vallor is the Baillie Gifford Chair in Ethics of Data and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Edinburgh, where she co-directs the Centre for Technomoral Futures and the BRAID (Bridging Responsible AI Divides) programme. Vallor's research examines how new technologies such as AI and robotics are reshaping human moral character and ethical practices. She has a strong focus on advising policymakers and industry professionals on the ethical design and use of AI technologies. Vallor served as a standing member of the Hundred Year Study of Artificial Intelligence (AI100) and its Oversight Board at the Ada Lovelace Institute. Her accolades include the 2015 World Technology Award for Ethics and the 2022 Covey Award from the International Association for Computing and Philosophy. Vallor has authored significant works including 'Technology Virtues: A Philosophical Guide to a Future Worth Wanting' and 'AI Mirror: Reclaiming Humanity in the Age of Machine Thinking.'
