Biography

Dr. Foong Shaohui is an Associate Professor in the Engineering Product Development (EPD) pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). He is currently the co-director of the Dyson-SUTD Innovation Studios and has extensive experience in unmanned systems and robotics. His research intersecting with the Ministry of Defence Singapore includes projects focusing on intelligent micro spherical ground robots and nature-inspired aerial crafts. As a principal investigator, he leads projects involving the design and development of novel UAVs for infrastructure inspection. With a strong background in applied magnetic sensing techniques, Dr. Foong collaborates with leading medical institutions to innovate medical devices that employ magnetic localization. He is also passionate about engineering education, having organized workshops to inspire pre-tertiary students in designing aerial crafts. His educational background includes a PhD, MS, and BS from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
