Sharifa Abdulla is a lecturer in Global Majority Theatre and Performance within the School of Culture and Creative Arts at the University of Glasgow. She studied Theatre Philosophy at the University of Malawi before progressing to her MA degree with Drama for Life at the University of the Witwatersrand and earning her PhD at the University of Glasgow. Her PhD thesis focuses on developing decolonizing methodologies through indigenous performances and conceptualized folk media, examining the narratives of HIV/AIDS in rural Malawi. Prior to her academic role, Sharifa worked in Drama and Theatre Studies at the University of Malawi, where she taught courses in African Theatre, Development Performance, and Cultural Studies. She led various participatory theatre-based interventions aimed at health promotion research. Sharifa is also a Theatre Development practitioner and co-founder/director of the Art Global Health Centre Africa (ArtGlo), a local NGO in Malawi that utilizes participatory arts to foster healthy and engaged communities. In her leadership role at ArtGlo, she developed culturally relevant arts-based methodologies, positioning communities as vital partners and active agents in health interventions. Currently, she serves on the board of directors for ArtGlo and chairs the Human Resource Programming sub-committee.
