Biography

Sharmistha Mishra is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto's Dalla Lana School of Public Health. Her research primarily focuses on the causes, consequences, heterogeneity, risks, acquisition, and transmission of infectious diseases within epidemic contexts. Dr. Mishra's work is characterized by a data-driven approach to transmission modeling and epidemiology, with a commitment to serving and partnering with communities. Her expertise extends to both domestic and global health partnerships, specifically within the areas of HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). She has a strong interest in observational epidemiology, particularly in causal inference, bias analyses, and statistical transmission modeling that emphasizes health disparities and heterogeneity in epidemics. In addition to her research, Dr. Mishra holds a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Mathematical Modeling at the University of Toronto and is a clinician scientist based at St. Michael’s Hospital (Unity Health Toronto). She has completed her clinical training at the University of Toronto and holds an MSc in Modern Epidemiology and a PhD in Mathematical Epidemiology from Imperial College.
