Biography

Sharon Anoush Chekijian is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, where she has been a faculty member since 2007. She has served as the Medical Director of Patient Experience and the Yale New Haven Hospital PA/NP Post-graduate Training Program. Dr. Chekijian is a seasoned educator and was the founding Medical Director of the APP post-graduate training program, which admitted its first cohort in 2015. She specializes in global emergency medicine and has been involved in research and projects in low and middle-income countries, particularly focusing on the development of emergency care systems, unintentional injury prevention, and stroke care. Her work has taken her to countries such as Armenia, Uganda, and Iraq, and she has consulted for the World Bank and the U.S. Department of State. In 2019, she was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to enhance emergency care in Armenia. Dr. Chekijian is also committed to improving patient experience and communication in medicine, and she hosts the Yale Global Health Insights Podcast to discuss global health issues. Additionally, she has co-produced a film addressing human rights related to the Armenian Genocide, which premiered at the Pomegranate Film Festival in 2019.
